Whether you have right or left ear hearing loss, you\u2019ll be able to hear clearly from your other ear, just as you\u2019ve always been able to.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can be born with unilateral hearing loss, develop it in childhood, or acquire it as an adult.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just like in other instances of hearing loss, you might struggle to hear others in noisy environments and fail to pick up on background noises. However, a key sign you could have one ear hearing loss is that you also struggle to locate the source of a sound. We were designed to have binaural hearing (two ear hearing) for a reason! There are an<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hear-it.org\/single-sided-deafness\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> estimated 60,000 people<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a unilateral hearing loss in the U.S. alone<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, however, when this is compared to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nidcd.nih.gov\/health\/statistics\/quick-statistics-hearing#:~:text=One%20in%20eight%20people%20in,based%20on%20standard%20hearing%20examinations.&amp;text=About%202%20percent%20of%20adults,adults%20aged%2055%20to%2064.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">30 million people aged 12 years or older <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that have hearing loss in both ears (based on standard hearing examinations) in the U.S. this is considerably fewer people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"What_Causes_One_Ear_Hearing_Loss\">What Causes One Ear Hearing Loss?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A few things can lead to hearing loss in one ear. Sudden hearing loss on one side or both demands immediate medical attention.
