In reality, noise-induced hearing damage is almost always irreversible, and while this is unfortunate, it means it\u2019s well worth your time to take extra precautions to protect your hearing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the World Health Organization, over one<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/deafness-and-hearing-loss\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> billion young people (aged between 12\u201335 years) are at risk of hearing loss due to exposure to noise in recreational settings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, showing noise-induced hearing loss to be a widespread health threat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anything <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthyhearing.com\/help\/hearing-loss\/prevention\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over 85 decibels (dB)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is likely to cause hearing damage, but some activities are well-known to be high risk for noise damage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can reduce your chance of suffering from NIHL by being aware of some typical events and activities where loud noise is likely to occur. Other indicators include needing to raise your voice in order to be heard, the noise hurting your ears, and being unable to hear people three feet away from you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have ringing in your ears or muffled hearing after being exposed to a loud sound, this indicates that the sound was too loud as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s also important to keep an eye out for signs informing you of possible loud noise or telling you to use ear protection when you\u2019re at work, attending an event, or just out and about.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we\u2019ve already mentioned, anything over 85 dB can cause hearing damage, but it can be useful to understand this in context. The louder the sound, the greater the number of decibels. So while a conversation is 60 dB, busy traffic is around 70 dB to 85 dB, and a plane taking off is 120 dB.
